MEMBERSHIP REPORT 2026
When I took over the membership secretary’s role in 2020, having been a member since the 80’s, I
was actually quite surprised that the club could function with so few members, less than 180 at the
time.
Then came COVID and everything that went with it. A very testing time for everyone trying to keep
the club functioning.
I am very happy to report that since then – from the membership perspective – everything has been
on an upward trajectory. Putting everything on to the MyCourts system was I think key and some
great work has been done in this area latterly by Steve Dodd and Jeremy Haywood and more
recently by Ben McSkelly and John Dunne.
Club Membership is currently divided into two categories:
Full Members and Padel Pay & Play.
Numbers for full members currently stands at 408 an increase from 356 in 2025. These break down
into the following categories:-
Full Single 162 Senior Full Single 22
Full Joint 42 Senior full Joint 6
Family 65 (Category introduced in 2025)
Country 19
Day 21 Senior day 22
Junior 23
Life 10
Social 5
Youth 6
Student 5
Padel Pay and Play 463
With regard to Pay and Play members initially I had concerns that the club would be overrun but they have
become a very necessary part of the membership, currently taking around 35% of court bookings,
which helps us to fulfil our financial obligations. My priority at the moment, along with the rest of
the Committee, is to convert as many as possible to full members.
We have seen growth in the membership across all areas. Squash remains at the core of the Club
supported by the team captains Julie Griffiths and Paul Smith. Racketball has seen huge growth due,
in no small part, to the efforts of Chris Sheppard. Our junior section has developed enormously
thanks to the efforts of John Dunne, Dave Breen, Rob Wright and Mike Hooper.
The club is in a very positive position we now need to continue building on what we’ve already
achieved so far.
