Padel Tennis Report
As previously reported, the club committed to the construction of two Padel Tennis courts
back in 2023. Planning permission was finally granted in September 2025 and the courts
were completed in December 2025 at a cost of just over £162,000. This was within the
budget set in 2023 of £180,000.
Funding had been provided through an LTA interest free loan of £45,000, members’ loans of
£115,000, and the balance from club funds.
After a period of “soft launch” to members only, the courts were fully operational from March
2026 when Pay and Play was introduced. The committee secured the services of a qualified
coach, Sean Cove, in March and he has played a big part in developing court usage
through open days, competition and the coaching programme.
In applying for an LTA loan, detailed budgets and cash flow figures were provided to support
the application. The committee has used these figures as the budget to monitor the success
of the project and the ability of the club to service the loans. Based on the projected court
income for winter months, the budget was reached in February, and income in March
exceeded the summer month target. Throughout the last four months, income has grown
steadily and continues to significantly exceed the budget for summer months.
Interest due on members’ loans was paid on 1 st July 2026 and the first repayments due on
the LTA loan will start in October. The committee is confident that the income is more than
adequate to service the club borrowing.
The impact of the success of Padel Tennis at the club can be seen in membership numbers
and income, reported elsewhere.
Going forward, a league system has been introduced alongside various coaching and social
play opportunities and the committee wishes to thank Sean for the enthusiasm and
commitment he has brought to his role.
