Week 2 of team Racketball had FOUR ladies take to court. One present in each team. A full home team debut for Heswall Fury AND our first Heswall derby game of the season.
Xavs v Heswall Variety
Dan Parker battled hard against Nick Jones but, despite growing into the match after a slow start, Nick’s quality told in a 3–0 win. Graham Rigby then produced a composed and dominant performance to secure his own 3–0 victory over Paul, with Mark Evans following suit against Wayne thanks to some ruthless drops and few errors. Paul Rigby’s match with Ian Noble was closer than the score suggests, Ian’s great touch and front court play proving decisive in another 3–0. With the tie balanced at 2–2, Susana Simoes faced Paul Lines in a tense decider, the pair trading games before Susana stepped up brilliantly in the final, closing it out 11–2 with a superb display to clinch the team win 14-8 to Variety .
Heswall Fury v Capitol
Jayne McGrath was first up for her Fury debut and oozed class as she recorded Fury’s first ever points on home soil. Captain Rhys stood up next and took all three points against a willing opponent. PC Mark Jones , looked dapper, in Heswall colours and played some ferocious shots. Taking another 3 points on debut - a statement of intent from Fury. Neil Walker then gave Capitol’s number 2 a lesson in ball control to send Fury 4-0 UP on the night. Capitol’s Chris Lea fought back with a great 3-0 win of his own. 17-5 To the Fury.
Heswall 57s v Heswall Racketeers (5 of 7 games selected)
Dave Heaton was first up against Ladies champ, Leslie Cooley . Leslie raced 1-0 before Dave fought back to take the tie 3-1. A Roy of the Rovers performance from Mr Finney, snatching a dramatic 3-2 win over Rob Powley ’s power hitting, levelled the tie.
Despite some highly controversial marking, I managed to 3-0 win over Craig Beacham . Before Mike Corran returned the result against Matty Stapledon - levelling the tie 2-2. Top of the order was Tom Clark v Peter Barton . Peter went 2-0 up before Tom literally clicked into gear and secured a 3-2 win. 57s 15-10 win over our Racketeers.
Players of the week go to our 3-2 heroes. Susanna Simoes for Variety and Roy Finney of the 57s.
See you at the Saturday mix in, 4:15 onwards. More Racketball Team next Tuesday from 7.
