Racketball Report 2024/25 season.
For the first time ever we had a preseason of racketball at HRC with a summer league.
This was great success with strong participation and turned the regional focus onto Heswall. We followed this up by entering 2 sides into the regional league.
During the season, our friends at Village found themselves without a home, following court closure.
The club accommodated a third team for the rest of the season as a gesture of goodwill. Our teams remained competitive – with our Racketeers team finishing 3rd, a club record finish and our 57’s team only a step behind them. Rob Wright, Matt Stapledon and Dan Parker achieved team player of the year awards.
The three teams’ main success was fielding 40 players from HRC as we pushed participation and reach of our teams, whilst maintaining standards. Mark Evans, captain of our village team confirmed that the team were remaining at Heswall indefinitely, adding a host of experience and character to our racketball section.
Tom Clark and Chris also represented Heswall at the British Racketball Open in Hallamshire, Sheffield.
The club Racketball Open, handicap and for the first time, ladies Open were all successful with great participation.
Peter Barton won both the Open and Handicap, whilst Lesley Cooley took the Ladies crown. Our box leagues continued to grow – reaching record numbers. Helped by further movement from the village, our racketball day groups thrived.
We concluded the season with our first ever racketball trip overseas. Bob Mc, Ged Clark, Paul Smith, Chris Sheppard, Nick Hawkes and Brian Parker flew to Jersey on a 3 day racketball adventure. Despite losing in our final, it was a great experience for all.
A great conclusion in what was a fantastic year of racketball at HRC.
