The evening kicked off with an exhibition match between Susana and Jane , with Jane taking the win 3–0. No worries though, V
At number 5, Mark Evans faced Steve Patterson and was pushed all the way to a deciding fifth game by a resilient opponent who, on another day, could easily have caused an upset. A hard-fought and well earned win for Mark. Paul Rigby took on Neil Walker and struggled to impose himself against a functional and solid opponent who was consistent throughout. Paul never quite found his rhythm, no doubt Paul will be back...
Lewis Clarke once again put in a superb performance against Kevin Ferguson , producing an impressive 3–0 win. This is no easy task against Kev, and a result that speaks volumes about Lewis’s form. Dan Parker versus Locky delivered exactly what we’ve come to expect from this pairing, a well-fought, high-quality contest. As ever, the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect Dan’s efforts, well played Dan.
The number 4 match was a belter, not sure you are going to see a better quality game at number 4 in a while. Dave Breen against Mark Jones in a high-energy battle played in great spirit. This one could genuinely have gone either way, and it was almost disappointing to see Mark eventually edge it, only because everyone wanted the match to continue! Mark finally took the win 3 hugs to 1. Fury win 16-9.
Heswall Racketeers v Xavs
I was up first against Paul Clayton and recorded a very straight forward win, 3-0. Paul Smith followed up with his own win, despite picking up a knock, brave as ever. Matt Stapledon then took on Ian Noble. A competeive game that Ian took 3-1 but a good point for the team.
Peter Barton then stepped up to play a tough match against Nick Jones. Peter had to dig deep to overcome his opponents irritable style. Peter won the game in 5 on a tie break to record a marvallous win for the team. Then came Mike Beecham, who looked superior throughout as he beat talented Shaun Hendy 3-1. Racketeers win 18-5.
