Squash57 Summer League Round 3

Round 3 saw the league table take another twist, with Stapo’s Stompers continuing to look like the team everyone has to beat, while GED’s Jedis finally got themselves back on the scoreboard after last week’s disappointment.

Stapo’s Stompers 18–4 Parker’s Pokers

The Stompers marched into Heswall and left with another convincing victory, dropping just two points all evening.

Matty Smith and Captain Matt Stapo set the tone with good wins. Mark Jones made it three from three despite going 2-0 to proud Scot - Ross Frisby . Apparently, Mark told Ross we were having Mexican for dinner (Again) - which was enough to send him running! Paul Grannon kept the clean sweep alive, while Seb Gardiner also collected maximum points. Stapledon Metriarch, Shani - confirmed the maximum points with a good win of her own.

Parker’s captain Brian Parker may be considering a team meeting, although whether it’ll be tactical or simply group therapy remains to be seen.

GED’s Jedis 13–10 Neil’s Knockers

The much-anticipated clash between Neil’s Knockers and GED’s Jedis certainly delivered.

After rumours swirled all week that President Trump had refused to suspend Mike Corran because he’d “never been on the dark side”, Corran let his racket do the talking with another three-point haul over Hard hitting LCC Star Joe Walton.

Hannah Clark added two valuable points, Jason Hopkins chipped in with another three, Andrew Potter claimed three of his own, and Dave Heaton secured the final two points to edge the contest.

For Neil’s Knockers, Neil Walker , Kev Ferguson and Roy Finney all contributed well. Chris Sheppard endured one of those evenings every squash player has eventually, discovering that some nights the ball simply refuses to bounce your way.

With an 18–4 win for Stapo’s Stompers and GED’s Jedis edging Neil’s Knockers 13–10, the league is already beginning to take shape. The Stompers are setting a relentless pace at the top, while the rest of the pack will be hoping to halt the march before they’re completely out of sight.

Player of the week goes to Neil Walker
