Week 3 of Racketball at HRC started off with some exciting news - Squash57 levels is now live and being integrated into leagues and systems. This objective of squash57 levels (AKA Racketball) is to create a ranking system, just like squash - the system is identical. This will help boost the growth and popularity of racketball.
Heswall Racketeers v Xavs
Mike Beacham opened the night, on early against Ian Noble. A close race to start but at 1-1 Mike got the handle on things and won the game 3-1. Peter Barton then took over as the headline act with an impressive 3-2 win over Xavs captain Nick Jones. Racketeers were overpowered for the Xavs team after that. Matt Smith, Matt Stapledon and myself all recording straight forward wins. Racketeers win 20-3.
Heswall Variety v Heswall Fury
Little was known about Variety new signing Rich Brown , recruited after the warmup of a box game with Lee Bull - a proper deadline day capture! Big thanks to Rich for jumping in at the 11th hour. Lee Bull continues to impress with another 3-0 win. Susanna Simones then took the attack to Steve Patterson who showed his solid defence and smart winners to turn the tide and take the game 3-0. Lewis Clarke then took on Fury captain Rhys - but this tasty looking game didn't live up to expectations as Lewis took the game 3-0. Paul Rigby turned up looking like Timmy Mallet for a game against Headliner Dave Loughlin . Some impressive shots from Paul weren’t quite enough as Dave took the game 3-0 and seal the win for Fury. Mark Evans then took on the high energy Kev Ferguson , with Kev's perseverance coming out on top, 3-1.
Fury win 17-4.
Crosby Lights v Heswall 57's.
Our 57's travelled away to Crosby with an injury list that read like Darren Anderton's career highlights… We did ask for 100% effort and that's exactly what the side looked like. Lesley Cooley and Roy Finney both picked up valuable points for the team with very respectable performances. Then came John Dunne , due in work for 3am yet answers the Crosby cry. Effort, commitment and determination never in doubt as he crashed Crosby's party with a 3-2 win over captain Steve Kyriacou. Chris Lucas then showed his experienced to beat the improving Craig Beacham and Ade completed the job with his own win over the ever-battling Ged Clark . A great effort all. Crosby win 17-5.
Player of the week goes to get the job done - John Dunne.
Good luck this weekend to Tom Clark in the British Squash 57 (Racketball) open. I will be there too, taking on 10 times British champion Tim Vail (Briefly).
