Neston v Heswall Racketeers
This was always going to be a tough fixture and Neston pulled out their big guns in anticipation. I was first out and managed to get on top of Andy Hurst and win 3-0, getting it off to a positive start. Matt Stapledon then looked to be strolling at 4 against Jack Hussey, taking a 2-0 lead before losing 3-2. Matt Smith put up a good fight against GLS. However, GLS’s experienced gave him and Neston the edge to move 2-1 up. Then came the top order. Mike Beecham took on John Hunter, putting in a stunning performance to level the night with a 3-0 win. Peter Barton then did the same to Matt Slater and seal the win for Heswall. Heswall Racketeers 16-6 win over Neston.
Heswall Variety v Lymm
The league new comers made their first trip to Heswall. Jeff Moran and Colin Winstanley kicked off the night, both strolling to straight forward 3-0 wins. Graham Rigby had to dig deep in the first game, coming back from 9-4 down to win the game and go on to take the match 3-0. Paul Rigby continued the theme with his own 3-0 win at 2. Top man, Dan Parker then finished off Lymm with a good 3-1 win against a very competent number 1. H eswall Variety win 20-1.
LCC v Heswall 57s.
The daunting trip over the Liverpool Cricket club for our 57’s team. Lesley Cooley, Ben Adams, Craig Beecham all put in brave performances without getting any rewards. Paul Grannon then faced our ‘charity bunker boy’ – Jason Hopkins at 2. No luck this time for keen golfer Paul, that’s £5 to the juniors please. I expect it will be my turn next week! Captain Tom Clark then but in yet another fine performance to beat Joe Walton 3-1. LCC win 18-3.
Heswall Fury v Crosby Nicks
Steve Patterson opened for our Fury side against Andrew Chanter and put in a strong performance with Andy taking the tie 3-2 on a tiebreak. Lee Bull put in another good effort against the experienced Mark Murray, with Mark winning 3-1. Captain Rhys did similar with Tom Stephenson getting the better of him 3-1. Mark Jones then put in an impressive performance against Matty Fell but again falling short in the fifth. Star man – ‘cocky Locky ’ – then took Gary Powell to pieces at 1 with some great style. Nicks win 17-9.
Player of the week is Mike Beecham! Well done, that new racket works!
