It was double derby day down at HRC this Tuesday. It turned out to be a fantastic night of racketball and a great atmosphere around the club.

Martin Simpson made an impressive debut for Variety, but faced a lean, mean, in-form Chris Sheppard who just had that extra edge in every game, 3-0. Dan Parker and Peter Barton treated us to yet another five set epic. Full of grit, energy, and endless rallies, with Dan cruelly losing out 3-2 in a nail-biting tie-breaker.
Lewis Clarke came out flying against Matt, finding top gear early and holding off a spirited fightback to take the win, 3-1. Paul Rigby played Mike Beecham , a very strong opponent at number 2 who proved too strong this time and another 3-1. Finally, Mark Evans and Matt Smith served up a thriller, both had match points before Matt landed the knockout blow to edge it 3-2. Racketeers win 18-8.
Heswall 57s v Heswall Fury
Craig Beecham continued his racketball rise with a good performance against captain Rhys, who in the end, edged the game 3-1. Seb Gardiner made a fast start against the improving Mark Jones , but Mark’s legs ran out 3-0 winners. Paul Grannon played at 3 v the in form Lee Bull . Paul showed why technique is superior to power as he recorded a 3-0 win himself, to keep our 57’s in the game. Next up was Bob Mc v Kev Ferguson or Wile E Cayote v Roadrunner. It really was guile v running with Kev taking a very close 2-1 lead. However, it was too much running and Kev succumbed to injury – perhaps that was Bob’s trap all along!
A fitting end to the night and match was an epic, high level contest between Tom Clark and Dave O’Louchlan . Congratulations to both of you for achieving such a great level of performance and providing such good entertainment. Tom took the game in a tight finish, the match too. 57’s win 15 to 10.
Player of the week was Lewis Clarke. T hat’s a great performance.
