Racketball Report Week 10

The penultimate round of racketball league games happened last night – explosive!

Heswall 57’s v Lymm

Ben Adams is proving to be a firecracker of a number 5, with a 3-0 opening win against Minnie Wood. Seb Gardiner was up next, playing at 4. He entertained the crowd, taking the game to a five set tie-break before snatching away a near famous win for his opponent. Paul Grannon then stepped up at 3 with a fairly routine win over David Jordan, 3-1. Bob Mc wasn’t in game for entertainment as he demolished Lymm captain, Mike Jordan 3-0. Sending him home with a final game 11-0 scoreline. I wouldn’t expect a Christmas card, Bob! Captain fantastic, Tom Clark was top of the order and provided an entertaining display over the useful looking Paul Jordan. Another 3-1 win and a 20-4 win for our 57s.

Heswall Racketeers v Crosby Nicks

Our Racketeers side had the opportunity to move top of the league with a win over a strong Nicks team. I was out first against the lively Mark Murray and a straightforward 3-0 victory followed, setting the tone for the night. Matt Stapledon was up next in what was a clash of styles – playing the cushioned volleyer, Tommy Stevenson. Matt delivered another 3-0 win. Up stepped Andy Corran for his racketball debut against the fast-paced Matt Fell. Andy looked like he’d played this game before and won comfortably, 3-1 for the team win. Then came the big hitters! Peter Barton took on the In-form Gary Powell. Class is permanent as Peter powered his way to yet another 3-0 win. Nicks had put out a strong team – headed up by the sharp looking Jason Cunningham who showed some brilliant shots. However, Mike Beecham is a step above brilliant and won 3-0. A head turning 20-1 win for our Racketeers, who move top of the league.

Neston v Heswall Variety

Our Variety team travelled down to the swamplands for a tasty looking match. Graham Rigby was up first, against the pacey Elliot Sutton. Elliot was quick off the mark too and took Neston into a 3-0 lead. Lewis Clarke then levelled the tie with a very impressive win over Justin Hussey, 3-0. Mark Evans then played another 5 setter, he toiled for the match momentum, but Jack Hussey stole it 3-2. Paul Rigby then levelled the tie, taking an impressive win over Phil Leach setting up a deciding class at the top of the order. Dan Parker v Andrew Potter to seal the win. Dan made no mistake, winning 3-0 and giving Heswall Variety a 16-5 win!

Crosby Lights v Heswall Fury

Looking for a full house, our Fury team travelled to Crosby in the hope of a good win and some good Pizza. Lee Bull and Mark Irvine both showed a tremendous effort but lost 3-1 to both Reece Mannion and Steve Kyriacou. The ever-improving Mark Jones then took Damian Boyle to 5 sets, narrowly losing in what was ultimately the match decided. Neil Walker recorded an impressive 3-0 win over everyone’s favourite Crosby star, Ade. Before our own star man Locky beat the powerful Alex Mannion in a five-set thriller. Crosby Lights win 16-10.

Player of the week is Lewis Clarke. Throw another shrimp on the barbie, mate!

Final call to enter the club Racketball Open, Handicap and over 50’s. It’s now or never!

Chris
