Heswall 57’s v Capitol
Week 6 opened up with everything we’re about at Racketball. The top squash experience from supremo Roy Finney , running drills with team newbie, the ambitious Ben Adams . Ben was on first and with his eye in made short work at 5 to win 3-0. Then came Roy, rolling over Ian Welsh 3-1 and give the 57’s a strong start. Capitol were on the brink as the improving Craig Beecham took a 2-game lead before Capitol fought back taking the game and keeping the match alive. Paul Grannon then stepped up and played 2 – having a great game which he eventually won 3-2 sealing the win for Heswall 57’s. Tom Clark then came crashing in as the captains met at 1. No contest at all and another win. Heswall 57s win 19 – 6.
Lymm v Heswall Fury
Our success at HRC Racketball has been through developing our own players. Fury were full of them tonight as Jayne McGrath continued her fine form – winning easily. Steve Patterson followed the theme at 4, yet more points in the bag. Lee Bull took a run out at 3 with an impressive performance and narrowly missing out on taking both the game and match. Mark Jones , yet another star in the making, managed to win playing 2 in five sets. Amazing performance Mark. Lots more to come from you all. ‘Cocky Locky ’, not to be outshone, then breezed to another win top of the order. Fury win 19-6.
New Brighton v Heswall Variety
Our Variety team were at full strength, travelling away to New Brighton. Graham Rigby and Lewis Clarke both took good 3-0 wins early on. Mark Evans then battled well against Leigh Ward but didn’t quite have enough. Paul Rigby, then made it a Rigby double with a fantastic win over Karl Mullins. A first for HRC racketball, Paul today gets ‘Shot of the day’. Thankfully, Gary Lineker is nowhere to be seen! I can’t wait to see it re-enacted! Dan Parker battled hard in a clash of styles game, but Mark Maddox took this one. Next time Dan. Variety win 16-6.
Heswall Racketeers v LCC
A top of the table clash, LCC came over with a strong side, intent to win. Rob Powley was up first and put in a great effort, powering his way to valuable points. Paul Smith then did the same against Jason Hopkins with a great effort losing in the fifth. Smithy, your strength and recovery has been remarkable. That said, losing to Jason Hopkins, the captains bunker is £5. Paid, with thanks. That was as good as it got for us, with me, Matty Stapledon and Mike Beecham all putting in strong performances against fantastic players but with no reward.
Player(s) of the week goes to Ben Adams and Roy Finney . Great wins but you both embodied everything Racketball at HRC is about.
Shot of the day – Paul Rigby !
A week off for half term. Team mix in on the 28th.
