We welcomed a host of players from across the regional racketball community to HRC on Tuesday evening for the opening round of the HRC Summer League.
Squash 57 (racketball) continues to go from strength to strength at HRC, and the quality of play on display certainly reflected that. Susana Simoes produced one of the performances of the night with an impressive statement victory over Crosby’s James White . Ross Frisby also delivered a strong performance, recording a 3–1 win against Neston’s Andy Hurst. Mark Jones continued his excellent recent form with a hard-fought 3–2 victory over crowd favourite Jason Hopkins.
The headline fixture of the evening saw Tom Clark take on LCC’s resident powerhouse, Joe Walton , with Tom emerging victorious to earn valuable points for GED’s Jedis. Mike Corran and Rob Powley also felt the Force, each contributing three points to the Jedi cause.
However, Karl Mullins and Seb Gardiner responded in style, adding crucial wins to those already secured by Mark Jones and Susana Simoes , helping Stapo’s Stompers edge the contest 14–11.
Meanwhile, over on some other busy courts, Bob Mc faced chief Knocker Neil Walker in a highly entertaining encounter, with Neil eventually prevailing 3–2.
Paul Rigby, Ross Frisby and Paul Smith all secured important victories for Parker’s Pokers. But Jayne McGrath, Lee Bull and Kevin Ferguson fought back strongly for Neil’s Knockers, ensuring the match ended honours even at 14–14.
The evening delivered plenty of entertainment, energy and a fantastic atmosphere throughout. The food may have been average, but the racketball certainly wasn’t!
It was also great to see Squash 57 guru Lee Walton back on his feet following knee surgery. Everyone at HRC wishes him a speedy and successful recovery.

Round 2 takes place on 23 June and will be followed by the 9:00pm World Cup clash between England and Ghana. We look forward to seeing another great turnout.
