Heswall Variety v Heswall 57s
Ben Adams was first out on derby day, looking to add some real estate to his racketball portfolio. The lively Susanna Simoes put up a commendable fight, with Ben taking the game 3-0 and giving an early lead to our 57s. Mark Evans was up next, against Seb Gardiner at 4. Mark took a commanding head start before Seb found his rhythm. Mark pipped the 3rd 17-15 to level the match. Very little variety in the next two games as Lewis Clarke and Paul Rigby continued their fine form – both winning 3-0 and taking the match. There was still time for Tom Clark to take some valuable points back with an impressive 3-1 win over top man – Dan Parker. Variety win 15 – 6.
Capitol v Heswall Racketeers
A long trip to St Helens for our Racketeers. Dave Heaton made the trip back from London and showed just as much commitment on court as he recorded a very comfortable 3-0 win. At 4, was Powley Power – with Rob pinching the match 11-9 in the fifth. A very competitive match, well done Rob. Next up the remarkable Paul Smith , despite going one game down – showed that recovery is a strength he has in abundance, coming back for a 3-1 win. It was then the captain’s showdown at 2 as I took on Darren McCann. His boasts were not so effective from the back corners, I took the game 3-0. Matty Smith then played a strong game against the impressive Chris Williams – unlucky not to take the game to 5 but a valuable point. Heswall Racketeers win 18-6.
Heswall Fury v New Brighton
Mark Jones took on accomplished Racketball supremo Mike Flemming at 5, with Mike’s experience coming up trumps with a 3-1 win. Neil Walker played Andrius Roos at 4, with Neil taking an impressive 3-1. Lee v Leigh at 3. Whilst Lee Bull has developed his game hugely in the past few months, Leigh Ward was just one step too far. Kev Ferguson then battled at 2 against the in-form Mark Maddox with Mark taking the game and match – 3-1. Top of the order was a mouth-watering tie, Locky taking on Ian Thomason. Locky had a lot of composure, skill and even some self-belief! – taking the tie 3-1. New Brighton win 16-8.
Player of the week goes to star man Dave O’Louchlan AKA Locky. What a performance!
Next week is the first ever HRC double derby day! Heswall Racketeers v Heswall Variety AND Heswall 57’s v Heswall Fury. Mexican food after in the bar. All welcome.
Chris.
