Treasurer’s Report 2024
Following on from a few volatile years to begin this decade, 2024 could be remembered as something of a less eventful year – but a positive one, in which the club continued to make progress towards a sustainable future.
Much of this progress can be attributed to growth in several areas within the club.
The Juniors are very much our future, and for the sport in general, and it is fantastic to see them go from strength to strength.
Racketball has continued to grow, and the creation of a vibrant culture within this section has continued to attract new members.
Functions have also been on the up, from a combination of new enquiries and positive experiences from previous bookings – these have helped to attract further interest in the club generally.
We owe a special thanks to everyone for their tireless efforts to drive progress at the club – it’s really making a difference. This can be seen in the financials, with revenue growing across the board. Cost pressures have remained, generally – though gas and electricity contracts are up for renewal in mid-2025, and are likely to result in some upside going forward.
Overall, the club made an £8.7k loss – whilst this is another difficult result, it is a further improvement on prior year.
Again, I would like to provide some reassurance – with the depreciation charge being £9k, the club actually made a very modest cash surplus of £0.3k on ordinary activities. What this means is that we can pay all usual bills as they fall due – however, at present, we’d struggle to afford yearon-year to invest money to improve the general facilities.
This is why we haven’t done so in the shortterm. Ultimately the club is perfectly solvent, with cash reserves effectively only declining (£13.8k in 2024; £9.3k since the pandemic) by the ongoing investment into our exciting new future involving Padel.
This is a huge move towards further boosting the membership book, participation and general footfall within the club, which is key to our long-term survival.
Moving into this year, the outlook continues to improve – notably, with the club steadily attracting new members. With general activity continuing to grow, we move closer towards a sustainable future.
