Racketball Report Week 12

The second half of the Racketball season started last night with some great performances across four very strong teams. Squash57 levels is now live for the league and as of today, so is the App. Squash57 levels is the equivalent of SquashLevels with Squash57 the official name of UK Racketball. 57 coming from the 5.7cm diameter ball.

Heswall Variety v Capitol

Variety entertained a weaker looking Capitol side who travelled without many of their big hitters. A great addition to the league this year – Capitol came full of good spirits and despite leaving with very little in terms of points – we hope they enjoyed some pizza and a great atmosphere at our club. As for games, Martin Simson, Mark Evans, Lewis Clarke, Paul Rigby and Dan Parker all made routine wins. A nice return after the Christmas break. Variety win 20-0.

Xavariens v Heswall 57s

Ben Adams was given a walkover as our 57’s looked to do the double over Nick Jones’ Xavs. Craig Beecham put in a sterling performance at 4 to beat the lively Paul Clayton. Paul Grannon then dug deep to beat the awkward Wayne Bedford 3-2 and seal a great team win. Bob Mc playing at 2, was already on his way to Machu Picchu as Ian Noble took a game back for Xavs. Super Tom Clark then won 3-1 against Nick Jones to give Heswall 57’s an impressive 17-8 win.

Heswall Fury v LCC

LCC deployed a strong side as they looked to chase down out Racketeers. Locky, Neil Walker and debutant Ross Frisby all put in brave efforts without reward. Lower down the order, Mark Jones put in an impressive performance against Chris Fairhurst, only losing narrowly in 5 sets. Much more to come from you Mark, a real highlight for our club! Then came the returning Kevin Ferguson at 5 – running his way to a 3-1 victory. Long live King Kev! 5 points is the best return from any Heswall team v LCC so far this season. LCC win 17-5.

New Brighton v Heswall Racketeers

It was 3rd v 1st as our Racketeers travelled to a tough looking away game, with a very strong side. At 5, the ‘elegant, skillful and naturally brilliant’ Matt Stapledon showed all his brute, powering his way past the likable Mike Fleming for a good 3-0 win. The future star Matty Smith , then pushed hard at 4 against the canny Leigh Ward – losing a close game 3-1. Then came whiz kid Andy Corran at 3 , taking on the might of Karl Mullins. A five-set thriller, pipped by Corran to give his new racket its first win on debut. Peter Barton then took on Mark Maddox in a complete clash of style – Peter winning 3-0 with relative ease and seal a vital away win. Mike Beecham , GOAT, then took on Ian Thomason in a top of the order clash full of natural skill. Yet again, Mike Beecham won and sealed a very good 18-6 win For Heswall Racketeers.

Players of the week is both Craig Beecham and Andy Corran!

Next week our Fury team travel to Capitol whilst Xavs visit Variety. The first derby game of the year sees Racketeers host 57s . To avoid the clash, Bob and Roy are setting sail for South America!

The headline act is Tom Clark v Mike Beecham for the club number 1 spot.

Tuesday 20th, 9pm-ish Court 5!!!
